Science and Health Today: Why the World Needs Reliv Now + LunaRich X

We often hear warnings about the dangers of the standard American diet and lifestyle. The increased demands on our time compel us to seek more convenient, fast food options that are often highly processed and low in essential nutrients. We often lament the fact that we don’t have time for physical activity, are stressed out and don’t get enough quality sleep. All of these things lead to weight gain and New Year’s resolutions to lose that weight. Perhaps even a bigger issue is that the standard American diet leaves us with nutrient deficiencies making it even more difficult for our bodies to deal with the stresses of modern life. And this is a lifestyle that is becoming more common around the world, not just in the U.S.

But what about when we do everything right? We eat a balanced diet full of fresh produce, get regular physical activity, manage our stress, practice good sleeping habits and get those 8+ hours in and maintain a healthy weight. Are we doing everything we can for good health and getting all the nutrients we need? Possibly, but this is very dependent on what you’re eating and your individual needs. This can be very difficult to know for sure. There is also a difference between getting just enough of a nutrient and getting the optimal amount.

Thankfully, there is an easy way to make sure you’re getting enough of the nutrients you need – supplementation – nutrient insurance for your body. Many health-conscious individuals supplement to fill possible nutrient gaps in their diet in order to maintain an acceptable level of overall health and wellness, in addition to their regular healthy habits. Instead of living with habits that lead to risk of disease, we need to be proactive and practice habits that not only lower our risk for disease, but help us become stronger, more energetic, and feel great so we can enjoy life now.

This is why Reliv has created the Super Pack, a convenient combination of Reliv Now and LunaRich X, our Dynamic Duo for optimal health and wellness. Reliv Now contains 25 vitamins and minerals, several herbal sources of antioxidants, enzymes, amino acids and 7g of soy protein. LunaRich X works at the epigenetic level to reduce cholesterol and promote overall cellular health. The powder format of these products is easier for the body to digest and absorb.

Each of these products alone are great support for overall health and wellness, but together they are even more effective. In a recent swine study (pigs have a similar physiology to that of humans), researchers found that the combination of Reliv Now and LunaRich X reduced free fatty acids in the blood, increased the hormones leptin and adiponectin (which play roles in hunger and metabolism) and reduced weight gain.

The following provides a more detailed look at the benefits of supplementing with Reliv Now and LunaRich X – the Reliv Super Pack:

25 Vitamins & Minerals
– are essential to our bodies for normal growth, development and maintenance. For example, Reliv Now contains 200% of the daily value of Vitamin B6, one of the most common vitamins for which Americans are deficient. Vitamin B6 helps the body metabolize fats and proteins, is important for healthy hair, skin, eyes, and liver, and supports several organ systems. This nutrient has to be ingested every day because the body doesn’t store it. Whatever isn’t used leaves the body.

Antioxidants – fight off excess free radicals, which can overwhelm the body’s defenses and cause oxidation and damage to our cells and DNA.

Protein – gives us energy, rebuilds and repairs our cells (such as muscle cells), and is part of many different enzymes, antibodies and hormones. It is an important building block for bones, cartilage, muscles, skin and even blood.

Enzymes – are proteins that regulate nearly every chemical reaction in the body. Thousands are made and used by the body every day. In the digestive track they break down fats, carbs and proteins while detoxifying alcohol.

Bioavailability – The powder format of Reliv products gives the body easy access to their nutrients so you get the most out of your supplement. LunaRich, found in many Reliv products, is manufactured in such a way as to leave a protective shell of protease inhibitors intact around the lunasin molecule. These molecules keep proteases (enzymes that break down proteins) from breaking down the lunasin molecule, ensuring it arrives safely to the small intestine. Here the shell is broken and lunasin is readily absorbed. Studies of LunaRich have shown the successful delivery of bioactive lunasin to the blood stream.

Lunasin is a naturally occurring soy peptide and the key to soy’s health-promoting benefits. LunaRich® from Reliv optimizes lunasin content.

You provide your body with all this and more with Reliv’s Super Pack.

A Note from Dr. Carl: Make the Super Pack Part of Your New Year’s Resolution for Good Health
Reliv Now has always been a great boost for overall health and wellness, but with the addition of LunaRich and LunaRich X capsules, their synergistic relationship has taken Reliv supplements to the next level. Start your health off right this year and resolve to kick it up a notch with Reliv’s Super Pack.

12 Health Tips for the Holidays

SubscribeButton-web

SHThealthyholtipsDecBlog Making sure health remains a top priority during this special time of year

For a time of year that brings so much joy, the holidays can sure do a number on our health. It is cold and the flu and other viruses are everywhere.  You’re also carrying an extra sugar load from all the delicious holiday treats that seem to surround and follow you.  Maybe you’ve missed a few days or weeks of exercise (after all, it is the holidays), and the family is all coming to your place for the holidays so you better hurry to make sure your house is spotless, decorated like a catalogue, and everyone’s gifts are wrapped and ready to impress. This is a lot of stress for anyone’s body, mind and spirit. How about those of us who maybe haven’t been good all year health-wise?

Our health is important all year round and may require extra care during the holidays. So here are 12 tips for all of us to keep our hearts in the holidays.

  • Keep warm. Dress in layers to adjust to the changing weather.
  • Spread joy and cheer, not germs. Washing your hands and coughing into tissues or your elbow can go a long way in stopping the spread of germs. Really.
  • Manage stress. Thoughts of elaborate feasts with friends and family, dazzling decorations, and the perfect gifts dance in our heads. Everything will be just right. Pretty soon we’ve stressed ourselves out trying to get it all ready, spent way too much money in the process, and have forgotten to actually enjoy ourselves and our loved ones. Stress can manifest itself in physical symptoms as well – fatigue, irritability, headache, upset stomach, nervousness and changes in appetite.
    • Set realistic goals. Plan ahead so you don’t find yourself scrambling at the last minute or feeling the nagging mental burden of an unfinished task.
    • Take a moment. Step away from the fray to take some deep breaths and lower your blood pressure.
    • Watch what you eat and drink. Yes, the holidays are times for special treats, but a balanced diet is essential for managing stress and feeling your best. Eat a protein-rich breakfast to keep you satisfied and less likely to binge. Plan healthy meals and snacks ahead of time to keep yourself on track. Maybe just eat a small portion of your favorite treat. Also, limit your alcohol, as overdoing it can actually add to your stress. Taking care of your diet can also save you some stress come January when making resolutions.
    • Stay hydrated. (with water, not alcoholic beverages – see above.)
    • Laugh. It actually is the best medicine in this case.
    • Chat with a friend. Sometimes we keep problems bottled in our own heads until they grow out of proportion. Airing out your stresses to a trusted friend can help gain some grounding clarity.
    • Get active. Go for a walk or some other cardiovascular exercise to release endorphins in the brain. Try out that Zumba class you’ve been meaning to attend.
    • Listen to music. Studies show both happy and sad music can lift your mood. And, it has been shown that singing together brings people closer to one another.
  • Make sure you get enough sleep. This will help with stress, your immune system, and overall health.
  • Reliv. Don’t miss out on the boost of health and energy you get by drinking your Reliv shake every day – especially the holidays.

We Challenge You! Get the Attitude for Gratitude

SubscribeButton-web

Thanksgiving-web

Thanksgiving is often recognized as a day to be thankful and to show our gratitude for everything in our lives. Although it is wonderful to give thanks on this day and to celebrate Thanksgiving with our closest friends and family, we each have so much to be thankful for every day! Taking time out of our day to be appreciative of every person or object in our lives is also proven to make us happier.

If you think about it, it makes sense. I know when I start thinking about all of the wonderful people in my life, the places I’ve been, the opportunities I have and the abundance of tangible things in my possession, I can’t help but smile and feel so blessed!  I saw this quote a while ago and always revert back to it when I catch myself feeling down, “If you woke up tomorrow with what you were thankful for yesterday, what would you have?” If we each spent five minutes of our day being mindful of all of the magnificent blessings in our life, how much happier would we be? Acknowledging all of the good things we have going, quickly diverts our attention to positivity and keeps our smiles bright.

The next time you feel alone or empty, take a few minutes to grab a pen and paper and write down as many things as possible that you are thankful for. Your dog, the clothes on your back, the food in your refrigerator, your children and spouse, your new shoes, your favorite book, your health and well-being and the freedom and opportunity that Reliv can provide.  Whatever it is, give thanks and be grateful. We only have one life to live so why not live every day happily!

As Thanksgiving is approaching and we are paying more attention to giving thanks and being grateful for the abundant blessings in our life, we encourage all of you and ourselves to celebrate giving thanks each day rather than just on Thanksgiving! We challenge you to take an extra five minutes out of your day to give thanks.

Science & Health Today: Blood Sugar Management

Seven Years of Blood Sugar Management with GlucAffect

This November marks the 7th anniversary of Reliv’s GlucAffect® nutritional supplement launch. GlucAffect was developed to support healthy blood sugar levels and weight loss, indicators of metabolic syndrome which can lead to chronic diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Research supports the effectiveness of the GlucAffect formulation.

GlucAffect was studied in an 8-week clinical trial that included 50 overweight participants with moderately elevated fasting blood glucose. Subjects were randomly assigned to either four daily servings of GlucAffect or a placebo meal replacement, and all participants took part in a diet and exercise program. Those who took GlucAffect lowered their fasting glucose by an average of 30%, moving them to healthy blood glucose levels. They also lost an average of 16 pounds. The control group taking the placebo did not experience significant reduction in their blood glucose levels or weight.

The patented GlucAffect formula includes several potent extracts, such as Pycnogenol®, LunaRich® and banaba leaf, which continue to be studied for their health benefits, especially in regards to the risk factors of metabolic syndrome.

Pycnogenola powerful antioxidant that has been shown to lower blood glucose levels, LDL and blood pressure.

A 2015 review in Phytotherapy Research reported that Pycnogenol’s “strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, endothelium-dependent vasodilator activity, and also its anti-thrombotic effects make it appropriate for targeting the multifaceted pathophysiology of metabolic syndrome. Clinical studies have shown that it can reduce blood glucose levels in people with diabetes, blood pressure in mild to moderate hypertensive patients and waist circumference; and improve lipid profile, renal and endothelial functions in metabolic syndrome.”

LunaRichthe most bioactive form of the soy peptide lunasin, which has been shown to improve cholesterol lipid profiles, as well as overall cellular health.

Diabetic individuals are prone to unhealthy cholesterol levels that increase their risk of heart attack or stroke. Lunasin has been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol in the blood by increasing the receptors that remove LDL from the blood and reducing LDL production in the liver.

Banaba leaf extractcontains a high percentage of corosolic acid, which supports healthy glucose metabolism.

A 2015 study in Biomed Research International showed that banaba leaf extract reduced lipogenesis (the process where simple sugars are converted to fatty acids so they can later be stored as fat), oxidative stress and inflammatory markers. It also suppressed oxidative injury to the liver in rats that were fed excessive amounts of fructose.

A 2012 review in Evidence Based Complementary Alternative Medicine stated corosolic acid has been shown to decrease blood sugar levels in humans within 60 minutes. Corosolic acid was also found to promote antioxidant activities and to lower lipid levels in the blood. Banaba and corosolic acid benefit many different parts of glucose and lipid metabolism.

A Note from Dr. Carl: Good bye to high blood sugar, high LDL, and extra pounds.

Since the completion of its formulation, we’ve been confident in the potential of GlucAffect to help individuals manage their blood sugar, improve their cholesterol and even lose weight. Studies have shown the effectiveness of the GlucAffect formula as well as each of its individual ingredients.

Most importantly, GlucAffect consumers have reported great — even life-changing — results. When used in combination with a healthy lifestyle, GlucAffect can help you take control of your health too. (And it tastes great!)

To your health,

Dr. Carl W. Hastings

Vice Chairman and Chief Scientific Officer

ACUTE INFLAMMATION: THE QUICK FIX

Acute inflammation is your body’s reaction to something foreign, such as viruses, bacteria, allergens and trauma. When the foreign invader is no longer a threat, the inflammatory response should return to its healthy state: ready but not active.

Acute inflammation is an important immune response that protects you from infection and repairs tissues following injury. In most cases it is short-lived because the stimulus that triggered its activation is no longer present. The immune system has done its job of destroying the pathogens and healing the damaged tissues.

CHRONIC INFLAMMATION: THE SLOW BURN

But what happens when the inflammatory stimulus doesn’t go away? Many of the environmental signals that trigger inflammation are less obvious, continuous threats that keep the immune system functioning at a low level for a long period of time. This leads to chronic inflammation — a lowgrade, systemic condition often without any immediate symptoms. Over time, chronic inflammation slowly destroys tissues, leading to cumulative and serious damage.
