Fighting the Metabolic Syndrome Epidemic

According to the American Heart Association, 47 million Americans now have metabolic syndrome. The syndrome afflicts 40% of people in their 60s and 70s. That number is expected to rise along with our aging population.

A recent CDC study published in Pediatrics shows the epidemic isn’t limited to older adults either. Obesity in teens has skyrocketed in the past decade, and 23% of teens are now classified as diabetic or prediabetic.

Could you have metabolic syndrome?

  2. • high blood pressure, or on blood pressure medication
  3. • high triglycerides

  5. • low levels of HDL (good) cholesterol

  4. On top of this, unsaturated fats provide a slow release of energy, so unlike high
    sugar foods and refined carbohydrates, will keep you satiated for longer.
    For a speedy withdrawal of fat, avoid all “white” carbohydrates such as bread, pasta, cereal and potatoes.
    It is also possible that you think you cannot stand water.
