As part of my New Year’s resolution I am committed to nurturing my relationships and my current networks. I’ve come up with a small training on how to properly network through organized business networking meetings.
It’s important to understand that networking is more than just exchanging business cards. True networking is being a resource and sharing your skills and experience in the knowledge that you are helping friends and colleagues. Be generous with your own expertise, and open to others ideas and expertise “one-sided” networking never works.
To grow your network you must do more than just join an organization. You have to get involved to meet new people and make a name for yourself I suggest becoming active by volunteering and joining a committee.
N– Remember people’s Names. Nurture the relationships of your current network and warm markets.
E– Enthusiasm and Energy are important keys. Have the Empathy to understand that everyone has their own agenda. Remember that Eye contact speaks volumes. Encourage questions about your business or product.
T– Talk less and listen more. Networking is about listening and learning from everyone you meet. Remember it takes Time to develop Trust and you always need to be in the mode of Thinking “How can I help this person?”
W- Write! In this electronic age, a handwritten note or message stands out and will be remembered.
O – Organization is so important. Keeping your contacts, records, and information is essential to your success. Remember, when you meet others, it is an Opportunity to learn from them and to be a resource to help them. To do this, get in the habit of asking Open-ended questions to develop rapport.
R – Research every event you attend. Your goal is to develop a Rapport that will lead to a Relationship of trust and Respect. Your Reputation is crucial. When Referring in a networking meeting Refer a good, qualified, interested lead just as you would want to Receive.
K – Many perish for lack of Knowledge. Knowledge is power only when used. Much of this is common sense, however it’s not common practice. Take the action step to make things happen. Keep in touch and be creative about it. Be Kind to people give everyone you meet a smile and a handshake.
I – Integrity is everything! Your character and reputation are what sets you apart from the flock. Take the Initiative. Waiting for someone else to make the first move is not the style of the proactive business owner. Be genuinely Interested in other people and what you can learn from them.
N– No merely means “it’s not a good time”, “maybe a later date”,” I just can’t see that fitting into my life right Now.”
G– Set Goals for your networking achievements and remember to show Gratitude to those who help you. Give of your time and expertise.
By Networking within our Hot, Warm and Cold markets our Reliv business will grow and many lives will be changed forever.
